The 12 day War, The Big Confusion & The Tragedy in Texas - here’s a recap of Americas last 19 days.
Okay - hi, hello! I have been very gone and absent from this page and for that I am very sorry! During the midst of all the crazy world events taking place, I found myself extraordinarily busy with fourth of July plans, summer activities, and personal projects I had to take care of! SO, I will be making up for my absence by recapping the INSANE last 19 days we have had in America. From the 12 day war, the massive spending bill, the tragic flooding in Texas (now North Carolina too), so - lets get started! - also learned that my website will leave date entries for me so, no more lol.
*BBC News*
On June 22 the US launched what was called “a strategic military exercise” on key Iranian nuclear facilities. It was reported the attack was quote “successful and left no casualties”. This attack came after rising tensions between Israel and Iran - after Israel launched an attack against Iran’s nuclear facilities as well. Over all, this “war” did not leave many dead fortunately. The day of this attack there was a lot of outrage on why the US would get involved and why we did what we did. After some thought and research, I believe I know a good amount as to why we did.
First things first, the UN at large has agreed unanimously that a lot of middle eastern countries can NOT have nuclear weapons. There are a couple of reasons why, but the main and most pressing is; they will use them. Nuclear powers are meant to be a form of defense, and a negotiation tactic. No one plans on actually using them. The middle east however, specifically Iran and Saudi Arabia, would. Iran has a policy, not just a chant but a POLICY that goes as such; “Death to America, Death to Israel”. Now, whether you side with Israel, whether you believe Iran hates America for x, y, and z. The harsh truth is; the past does not change the present threat.
Okay so, if the UN agrees Iran should not have nuclear weapons, is there any proof they did? Well, it’s tricky. So earlier this year, the UN gave Iran 60 days to suspend its nuclear programs. There was no evidence to suggest they had a weapon, but there was enough to suggest they were working towards one. Iran did not suspend its program, and on day 61 - Israel struck first. Now, originally the US tried to negotiate a deal with Iran to suspend it’s program, but given the fact they were just attacked by Israel - an
ally of the US, they would not come to the table.
Sensing the urgency of the situation, Trump did what he thought best based off the Intel he had. So, what intel did he have? well for starters, Iran was upping the amount of uranium they had to 60%. For clarity - 3-5% is needed to power every day life, 90% is needed for nuclear power. It takes weeks to get from 60-90, which is not a short time period. Additionally, there is no point in vamping up the amount you have by that much without having other intentions. That, added with the “Death to America” - as well as the fact of; if Iran gets to have a nuclear weapon, other middle eastern countries will want in - Trump pulled the program to a halt himself.
Now, with that information - I encourage you all to read into this issue yourself and form your own unique opinion. Okay, wow this blog is gonna be a long one - SO! We just finished the 12 day war recap, let us move to another hard subject; The Big Beautiful Bill.
The Big Beautiful Bill was originally proposed all the way back in June, but was widely protested and forced congress to change pieces of the bill in order to present it to again. This Bill was passed on July 4th of 2025 and it is being labeled as a “Massive Spending Bill”. Which in part, is true but does represent it in its entirety. Why is this bill so controversial? Because Democrats and Republicans LARGELY disagree on how money should be spent and allocated. As someone who generally falls in the middle, I consider this bill to be a public loss for the republican party and allow me to explain why.
Our country is currently in a crazy amount of debt, inflation and more. Donald Trump and the Republican Senate believe the clauses in this bill will fix a lot of that debt. They may or may not be right, only time will truly tell. A couple of things they have passed with this bill is a cut to social security, and that’s a big one for me. My grandma lives off of social security and during the Biden administration a lot of news was spread that social security was cut under his term. I asked my grandma for myself, and she said hers was raised. I understand that may be an isolated incident, but after that I decided to do some research and dig for myself, and my findings were, surprising.
In short, the Biden administration did not cut Social Security benefits. In fact, President Biden signed the Social Security Fairness Act into law on January 5, 2025. This act eliminates the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and the Government Pension Offset (GPO), two policies that reduced or eliminated Social Security benefits for individuals who also received a non-covered pension (a pension from work not subject to Social Security taxes). This means millions of public sector employees, such as teachers, firefighters, and police officers, who were previously affected by these provisions, will see their Social Security benefits increase. Now, believe it or not - this may be a good thing for people like my grandma, but not for everyone at large.
We have a lost a lot of money to social security funding, 2.7 Trillion to be exact (as of december 2022 meaning that number has gone up). Trump and his team, look at that number and ask themselves how we can bring that down. If we allow that debt to keep rising, people who will need to live off of social security in the future, wont have it. So, cuts are expected to take place december of 2026, and we will have to see how they will fair then. Secondly, medicaid saw a lot of cuts in this bill, but not all are bad. There is a group of American’s who will be seriously affected by this, but others will thrive.
Unfortunately what I am learning is that politics is a lot of take and give. For example, 35 billion dollars of medicaid is being cut for NON U.S Citizens, okay I can get behind that. Additionally, it will require “able bodied” adults to work 80 hours a month to receive medicaid benefits. if you work 20 hours a week, you’ll be fine. That I can also understand. However, people with disabilities - who need medicaid the most are going to gut 1.02 trillion dollars in funding, that is a head scratcher. This bill is packed, and I am in no position to explain every bit and piece - I would encourage to read up and look into it unbiasedly to form an accurate opinion.
That being said, the reason I think it is a loss on social grounds is because Republicans are taking on what they perceive as necessary evils. They believe with this spending bill, while people will be affected temporarily - it will ultimately come back to help us in the long run, and “look out for the middle class”. The public however, does not view these “evils” as necessary and believe that this is just an act to help the rich get richer. Democrats, are noticing this and taking off with it. That will certainly come back to help them in the mid-term elections, making bills like this harder to pass or to even think about. But that’s just a moderates take! Form your own!! That said, time to move onto a sadder topic but an extremely important piece of our last few weeks, Texas.
A a few days after the bill passed, Texas was hit with one of the worst floods in our modern history. As I am writing this, 118 people have passed, and 170 are still missing. 27 being campers and staff from Camp Mystic. The reason I am writing about this is in large part to the lack of empathy I am seeing from the Democratic side online. I have a video covering this topic on my socials, but my points remain; the blame game is not useful, no one can truly predict the weather, and children are dead. I pray we as a nation can focus on that, the lives that have been lost. Unfortunately I am afraid this will be used a political tactic later on.
In terms of Politics Trump is receiving a ton of backlash in his efforts to help Texas, some being extremely valid. It is extremely unfortunate that this happened, but also the timing. It happened a few days after the spending cuts were signed, so some resources were not available for the recovery process. That being said, a good amount still were, and still are available. Additionally Trump has deployed the national guard and has funded rescue, and recovery efforts to make up for the hole that was left from the bill. A big head scratcher is not deploying the military, and that’s his biggest point of criticism as of right now.
That is all the information I possess on this topic, I know in the coming days and weeks, I will hit this topic again. While I did point on some of the political aspects of this issue, I would strongly encourage empathy above all else and for you to pray for the state of Texas. These poor children and families need help, not points to be made - let us focus on that.
Okay, I got through everything I wanted to, thank you for reading this post of mine and have a great week! See you next friday!
